The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Rep. Andy Ogles lost Tennessee’s Aug. 6 Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District to former state Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, ending the two-term incumbent’s bid for renomination. Hatcher led Ogles by just over six percentage points with virtually all votes counted, according to unofficial results. Ogles had been endorsed by President Donald Trump and is a member of the House Freedom Caucus. The race was held under a redrawn district map, and Hatcher had support from Gov. Bill Lee and other prominent Tennessee Republicans.

Ogles Deserved DefeatMostly Left

Andy Ogles was an extreme and objectionable Republican whose liabilities made him unworthy of keeping his seat. His primary defeat is a good outcome because it removed a racist, anti-immigrant, scandal-plagued Trumpist from Congress.
