The reporting
At least 47 people were killed and about 50 injured after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Flores Island early Saturday, collapsing buildings and triggering landslides across East Nusa Tenggara. The quake hit near Ende at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers, with deaths reported in Manggarai, East Manggarai, Sikka, West Manggarai, Ngada and Ende. Authorities lifted an initial tsunami warning, while blocked roads, power outages and disrupted communications slowed rescue teams trying to reach Nagekeo near the epicenter.
